Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga and Yoga Therapy? Isn’t all yoga therapeutic?
Yes yoga in its essence is a therapeutic practice! However; in general yoga classes and regular one to one sessions are guided by teachers not therapists. They point students towards the teachings of yoga and tend to offer generalised practices. Often yoga teachers are highly skilled and able to offer adaptions for any students with physical limitations. Therapeutic yoga is a more recent trend that suggests the teacher/guide will be therapeutic in their approach. For example they’ve maybe adapted their teaching to be ‘trauma informed’ or perhaps is a trained therapist within a different field and bring some of those qualities to classes. Yoga Therapy is its own discipline that weaves in Yogic and Ayurvedic perspective on health and requires extensive training and study that leads to a professional registration as a Yoga Therapist. How yoga therapy is delivered is reflective of how yoga was traditionally and historically taught and practiced.

What do you mean by practice?
Much like martial arts, yoga is a discipline and therefore considered a practice. The nature of our existence is one that fluctuates. We understand the work to obtaining ‘yoga’ is never ending and it is a practice that requires practise!
